Injury Facts

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the fingers are the second most frequently injured part of the body, exceeded only by back injuries. In 2008, injuries to the wrist, hand and fingers accounted for 17%  of lost workday injuries in private industry, with

• 17% in natural resources
• 19% in construction
• 26% in manufacturing
• 26% in leisure and hospitality

The average Workers' Comp incurred cost per claim (lost workday hand injuries) in 2002-2003 was $11,148.

 

Hand Injury Prevention Training

The training is presented as an on-site interactive seminar, building on key elements of your safety program and hand injury experience.

The presentation helps employees to eliminate hand injuries by:

• Increasing their understanding of how their hands - those complex associations of interconnected skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones - work;
• Reviewing categories of hand hazards and at-risk behaviors using everyday tasks as examples;
• Applying what they learned to their work tasks in team exercises.

The seminar includes several participant “hands on” demonstrations.
